For the past couple of months, I've been playing a card game with some friends in my ward. It is a French game, and it's quite difficult to explain. For today's purposes though, just imagine that it's sort of like Hearts but a lot more complicated, more French, and infinitely more frustrating. Every time I start to think that I'm getting the hang of it, I come up against some other rule or make another bad play.
Last night, we were playing again, and I kept winning. The game never ends--every time that those 5 people get together again, they start up where they left off. So this was a game that we had already started, and I wasn't winning when we started, but then I started winning. I've never been ahead in total points before, even when I've won a round or two.
But last night was sweet, sweet victory. I was so, so far ahead in total points that one person actually was plotting against me, even when our cards came up that we were on the same team! Fortunately, his evil efforts were thwarted when he misplayed and we had to redo the hand.
Only downside to the night? I stayed out WAAAAAAAAAAY too late. I am super tired today. But I did CREAM them all, so that was fun.
Strangely, they weren't as delighted for me as I was. But the game continues--if we get those same people back together again, we'll start up where we left off. I'll have a bit of an advantage though...
