Poem of the Day

You don't have to understand me.  You don't even have to read the poem of the day.  For what it's worth, I didn't write it, but it reflects my thoughts.  Will there be a poem tomorrow?  No.  It's an artistic thing.  I can call it the poem of the day and not do it every day.  Have a problem with that?  You can sue me.  I hear the Supreme Court has some time left over after this Pleasant Grove v Summum case.

Spring and Fall: To a Young Child

MARGARET, are you grieving

Over Goldengrove unleaving?

Leaves, like the things of man, you

With your fresh thoughts care for, can you?

Ah! as the heart grows older

It will come to such sights colder

By and by, nor spare a sigh

Though worlds of wanwood leafmeal lie.

And yet you will weep and know why.

Now no matter, child, the name:

Sorrow's springs are the same.

Nor mouth had, no nor mind, expressed

What heart heard of, ghost guessed:

It is the blight man was born for,

It is Margaret you mourn for.

-Gerard Manley Hopkins

My favorite poem! I've been thinking about it a lot lately, as in our yard worlds of wanwood leafmeal lie.

Good choice of poems. :-)
